I tried repeating the command: bzr branch lp:mysql-server/6.0 ...but 6.0 isn't there anymore.
So I tried running: $ bzr branch lp:mysql-server/5.5
Running top alongside shows the resident memory usage of bzr to rise to 353MB before it is finished.
I'm not running x86_64 like the original bug report.
