Bug Description

I've upgraded Ubuntu from 11.04 to 11.10. Deja Dup gave error 302 on startup. So I uninstalled Deja-Dup, rebooted, the re-insntalled Deja-Dup afresh using Ubuntu Software Centre to ensure latest copy of Deja Dup but error 302 again and no backups possible, nor since. All updates current in hope of a fix. But today 21OCT2011 still error 302 on startup.

This is likely an error on the server end. Let me add a task for that.

Hi Michael

Yes -- the precise wording is "Backup failed - Got status code 302".

I've un-installed Deja on Ubuntu 11.10. Then re-installed Deja afresh
using the Ubuntu Software Centre. (I've now done this three times over
the last couple of days with the same error result). All available
Ubuntu updates are in place. At each install of Deja, Ubuntu puts its
'black safe' backup-icon under Applications / Accessories. I click on
the icon to run the application and get the above error outcome.

Separately, I had previously chosen to un-install the default Unity
desktop and added my preferred Gnome desktop to 11.10.

Otherwise all is working perfectly in 11.10 with no other software
problems in any other application I have tested on 11.10. Deja is my
only problem in this respect.

I was surprised that Deja did not work in 11.10: I am cautious with
significant updates and I have two other Ubuntu boxes (one running
11.04, the other 10.10). I have intentionally not upgraded these others
while I fully explore 11.10 on my new and separate machine. Deja works
fine on the other boxes and has always worked OK on them. Only the box
with an otherwise fresh install of 11.10 has failed with the above error.

Many thanks for picking this one up Michael. I hope it leads to a
helpful find...

There is no Oops-ID printed.

Paul

Well I get the same 302. On the 11.10 upgrade I'm unable to use Gnome, even after installing the NVIDIA drivers, which I didn't want to do as it has some defaults associated with it. I have to use Gnome classic or Unity which works perfectly on my system, strange but true. when the 11.10 dvd becomes available I'll do another clean boot. and hopefully that will fix it.

Same issue apparently :
 - Ubuntu Oneiric installed,
 - Gnome Classic used,
 - A click on Menu/System/Deja Dup won't launch Deja-Dup
 - Via the terminal, deja-dup --backup launch Deja-Dup and work as usual.

Ubuntu One team: how should Deja Dup be handling a 302 status from you? It doesn't seem to be an error, but a redirection message?

I filed a bug for Ubuntu One servers that return 302 and redirect to OpenID authorization - LP: 989152

While the response is not a proper one, it should be happening only when tokens are invalid. However I am seeing this response for some requests that are supposedly completely valid. Filed LP: 989157 for this.

Also have this issue in 12.04.
I do backup of my Home folder. It has about 130mb. Déjà Dup uploads it for 1-2hours and shows this error 302.
It works if I do backup of one folder with one file.

We fixed the invalid redirect code in LP: 989152 and now the server returns 401 properly. The reason for the error on Ubuntu One side is found and Sidnei is working on a fix.

Same here (Error 401) started when deja-dup tried to make a new full backup to prevent "backup degradation". I've tried ereasing anything in the dejadup folder inside my Ubuntu One but the error keep appearing. thank you

Can't use dejadup for more than two weeks at least... unfortunately.

Michael, is there any configuration option in deja-dup that can tweak duplicity volume size as a temporary workaround until we fix the rest api frontend?

Just started trialling deja-dup with U1. I experience the same 401 issues as discussed, every time.

Front-ending duplicity with the following script:

#!/bin/bash
out=$(echo "$*" | sed s/--volsize=[0-9]\\+/--volsize=1/)
exec /usr/bin/duplicity $out

appears to bypass the problem by changing the volsize parameter passed from deja-dup.

Name the script "duplicity" and place in your $HOME/bin directory. Ensure that your .profile places $HOME/bin at the front of your PATH (12.04, at least, does this automatically).

I find that volsize=1 works well for me as I also front-end deja-dup with trickle to make it a slow upload. Change the --volsize=1 in the script to use other sizes.

Obviously, make sure you're happy with the outcome before relying on it. It appears to work for me, but I'm only trialling deja-dup at the moment and so YMMV.

I have just performed a clean install of 12.04, applied all updates, and then used default settings except instead of backing up the whole home folder, I selected only 2 folders.

I believe the backup was almost complete as the progress bar was all the way to the end, and then received the 401 error. I am not sure how to proceed.

Please let me know if I can help troubleshoot anything with my set up.

I've backed up on Ubuntu One several times in the past four weeks. All
has been fine. During the period I changed ISPs from DSL to one with a
higher upload speed. Would have that made any difference?

I have reinstalled 12.04 a few times recently. Deja-Dup worked fine with Ubuntu One. I reinstalled it on November 27, 2012. When I tried to back up, I got a Status 401 message.

I also run GNOME Remix. Deja Dup backed up to Ubuntu One just fine with that system.
