Bug Description

Firstly, this package is not in the Ubuntu 11.10 repositories. Secondly, when I try to install the package from here: http://goo.gl/hbenM it fails to install. When I try to install the deb with the terminal the output is:

I hope the U1 Music Store for Rhythmbox will ported to Ubuntu 11.10

I hope so too, I have purchased music on U1 music store and I simply refuse to use Banshee. Banshee is slow and has way too much overhead in terms of dependencies. Fortunately U1 is syncing the music I purchased for me but like many others, I'm out in the cold now they won't bother with Rhythmbox anymore. Users should not be forced into using software when they were happy with the original software they were using.

Free Ubuntu, ditch Mono!

I, too am an adherent of Rhythmbox. I can't say it's perfect, but it handles .m3u playlists in a rational way (keeping the songs in the playlist order for instance) which Banshee does not do. I use m3u playlists, Easytag creates them, my portable players understand them, but Banshee doesn't, so I continue to use Rhythmbox. I will very likely move to using 7Digital and Amazon services outside the Ubuntuone music store, since they keep copies of the songs I buy, should I need to re-download them, and I don't have to use an extra program to patronize them.

To tell you the truth, it's senseless moves like this and taking the erlang OTP out of Ubuntu that make me keep my eyes on other distributions.

I don't know what you mean about erlang OTP, but the lack of the Ubuntu One extension for rhythmbox in Ubuntu 11.10 is not a "senseless move" as you so put it. If Banshee had been able to complete the switch to GTK+ 3.x in time, then the Rhythmbox store would still be there. It was a tactical decision to not have the Rhythmbox store, because keeping up with all the changes in Ubuntu 11.10 as a result of GNOME 3.x, was already too much to handle, along with also trying to finish up support for a whole other platform. Maintaining the music store extension for both applications, based on two different versions of GTK+, and WebKit, was just not a feasible endeavor for us to take on.

With the intent of Ubuntu to not have GTK+ 2.x on the CD for Ubuntu 12.04, and with Banshee hopefully supporting GTK+ 3.x very soon, or Ubuntu switching back to Rhythmbox as the default for 12.04, we will be more easily able to provide support for both again.

I'm marking this as Won't Fix, as the U1 plug-in for Rhythmbox won't be in Ubuntu 11.10, due to circumstances beyond our control.

Changed in rhythmbox-ubuntuone:
status: New → Won't Fix

Thanks, for the update Rodney.
Because of the circumstances beyond your control, I switched to Debian yesterday. Lol*
