Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? What is "ms-tnef type attachments"? Do you have any mail example you can attach to the bug?

ms-tnef is the so called MicroSoft Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format. I actually found a small command line utility, ytnef, which is able to handle this format, but it would be nice to handle it transparently from within Evolution.

At the Moment, i only have some attachments containing sensitive data, but i will try to generate one i can post here - it could take me a few days to get hold on a Windows machine though.

Thank you for the example? What happens with that mail for you? The attachment is listed correctly with evolution on feisty and can be saved, it can't be open because there is no app associated to the .dat format which looks correct

I got winmail.dat integration working by following the instructions here: http://www.go-evolution.org/Tnef

Had to fiddle with the "configure" file a little, but got it working.
Install the evolution-dev package, libytnef0, and libytnef-dev and then compile.

I'm attaching a deb built against Evolution 2.10 in feisty.

Anyone think we can get this included at least in evolution-plugins-experimental?

This is a dire feature for those using Evolution at work and having to deal with people using Outlook.

Thanks, your Tnef plugin for Evolution 2.10 works fine for me ;-)

NP, but I just packaged it, the real work was done by Michael Zucchi. It'll have to be recompiled for subsequent versions of Evolution. I would love to see this plugin get into Ubuntu proper or at least multiverse.

Tnef support doesn't appear to be in Gutsy, so I rebuilt the evolution-tnef package for Evolution 2.12

could you please add the dependency on ytnef in the packaged plugin? Yesterday I removed some software from my laptop and, after removing ytnef (synaptic did not complain about it) the plugin stopped working. After reinstalling, everything is fine again.

Could you not distribute non official debs to user? It's likely to conflict with one of the next ubuntu updates and users will not likely figure what's causing that and blame it on Ubuntu

Interesting... the tnet atachment decoder is in the 2.21.92 source, but it is not being built... will check it more carefully.

ah, we were missing a required library - libytnef. I have submitted a Main Inclusion Request for it. When/if the MIR is approved, we will get the tnef-attachment build in evolution-plugins-experimental.
