Bug Description

--- Bug Description revised after post #4 ---
Shutter 0.86.4 Rev.906
Shutter -> preferences -> behaviour > "move files to trash then closing tab"
This setting is ignored, in that files are permanently deleted (not sent to trash) when this option is checked,
but works as expected (does not trash or permanently delete files, but simply removes the image preview from shutter) when this option is not checked.

---- original Bug Description - disregard : I did not know there was an option for "move files to trash then closing tab" ---
Shutter 0.86.4 Rev.906
Clicking the X icon in shutter (see image) closes AND DELETES the screenshot.
This is bad.
Currently it is (afaik) impossible to close a few screenshots to restore system memory without permanently deleting the files in question.
There should be two icons:
1) close image but do not delete file = X
2) close image and delete file from disk = other icon more appropriate to delete function, like trashcan

It should be possible to close screenshots
1) without permanently deleting them.
2) with permanent deletion
3) with trashcan stowage

System Trashcan should be used wherever possible instead of outright file deletion. Typical standards such as DEL for trashcan stowage, and SHIFT-DEL for permanent file deletion should apply here

The X icon is somewhat counterintuitive, as X on a tab normally indicates closing that tab.. not necessarily deletion of the asset it is rendering.

Please open the preferences dialogue and check the related option (see attached screenshot)? Is it enabled?

Ok, I was unaware of this option. So part of my report is invalid. I will uncheck the "Move to trash.." option to better suit my preference.
However shutter is indeed ignoring the options setting by erasing instead of sending to trash.

ie: With the 'behaviour' preferences window open i took 3 'window' screenshots via shift-print hotkey (strangely I was not asked which window to capture - normally I would have to interactively select a window)... I then used the tab's X in shutter to remove 2 of them. None of them went to trash, but were permanently deleted.

Also; when I check "Ask before moving files to trash" AND "move files to trash then closing tab" I am queried about trashing the files, but they are still permanently deleted regardless of my setting.

re #3
to clarify : "Move files to trash then closing tab" when DEselected works as expected - does not remove the file from disk.

Could you please retest that? I have spent several hours on this last night and there are different things going on.

1) When I look at the trash with Dolphin everything seems to be correct. When I move images from Shutter to trash they appear in the trash directory as expected.
2) When I look at the trash plasma widget it does not change it's status when files are moved to trash with Shutter. The same goes for all non-KDE programs as far as I can see (please try EyeofGnome under KDE for example)
3) The files that are trashed with Shutter cannot be restored > this is because Shutter does not implemented the FreeDesktop trash spec, but this is implemented now (available in trunk)
