Could the package not just be updated to an more actual GIT snapshot ( http:// gitorious. org/kamoso/ mainline/ commits/ vlc11port ) instead of removing it completely? Would be bad to have again no Webcam application for KDE and depend on GNOME's cheese which brings a load of gtk an gstreamer dependencies with it.
BTW - someone filed already a bug report #606861 on this (so this could have been fixed before the feature/beta freeze ;).
And could someone please have a look on bug #627682 - similar problem with kshutdown - it should be updated or removed before the maverick release.
