Binary package hint: abiword-plugins-gnome

Hi! Shouldn't this package depend on abiword-gnome? I installed it knowing I will have a usable abiword (GNOME) but when I tried to run the app (using the abiword entry in the menu), it failed because it can not find the abiword binary.

cheers.

apt-cache show abiword-plugins-gnome here is the output:

Description: plugins for AbiWord (with GNOME dependency)
 AbiWord is the first of a complete, open source office suite. The
 upstream source includes cross-platform support for Win32, BeOS, and
 QNX as well as GTK+ on Unix.
 .
 This package used to contain several plugins for AbiWord which require
 GNOME libraries. Currently, though, due to versioning issues with the GnomeDB
 library, only the plugin to manipulate SVG graphics is included.

the last line i think explains why its not a depends. I gonna leave this open for a while.

This can be closed - AbiWord-Gnome just uses some slightly different UI pieces and is actually going away in the next upstream release - they can use the same plugins. (If the description is correct, it should only depend on AbiWord or AbiWord-gnome and librsvg)

Stupid question, but is the only reason for having Abiword and Abiword-Gnome so that KDE/Xfce/etc users can install Abiword without alot of Gnome-related files? This has always confused me, partly because I thought Abiword used gtk.

Gtk is not gnome. Yes, abiword-gnome pull more gnome libraries than regular abiword. That's the main difference. But it is getting thinner with more features integrated at Gtk level.

So does Gutsy still list Abiword and Abiword-Gnome? If so, I would like this bug to remain open. If one has been eliminated, then I think this can be closed.

  * Move all plugins without unreasonable dependencies into main
    abiword package (LP: #24195)

  * Use upstream build system to handle installation during package
    creation.
  * Eliminated duplicated "desktop" file and icon in debian/misc in
    favor of upstream.
  * Copied manpage into debian/misc due to elimination from upstream
    source.
  * Ubuntu changes dropped:
    - debian/patches/01_aaa_fix_plugins_m4.dpatch: not actually

      plugin rewritten to use poppler binaries at runtime.
  * Added patches:

       import/export support included in the main package now.
    - debian/patches/03_modify_extras_pkgconfig.dpatch: fix configure
      of abiword-extras source sub-package against a non-installed

  * Add dh_desktop to register MIME types.

  [ Martin Pitt ]
  * Minor adjustments for intrepid upload, merged changelogs from all PPA
    uploads.
  * Dropped abiword-plugins-gnome package, since it is empty since edgy. Add
    appropriate transitional dependencies.
  * Skip -0ubuntu1 version number, since PPA has a higher version already.
