Bug Description
Impact: In case there is a distribution upgrade it will be displayed by update-notifier-kde AND in the updates dialog of kpackagkit Additionally, the latter one is featuring a broken implementation and will cause an evil error.
Addressed: The bug was addressed in preventing kpk of finding out about new distro versions, so rather non-invasive.
Instructions on how to reproduce:
* Install karmic
* Edit /etc/update-
* Logout and login again
* Observe that unk shows a noitificaiton about lucid
* Now either start kpk and go to it's update tab, or in case updates are still pending, trigger unk and reject the distro upgrade, upon which kpk's update dialog should pop up
* In both cases the update dialog will present you with the information that a new distro upgrade is available, and whether you want to run it, upon trying that an error will occur
* Using the presented patch the update dialog will just not display such an information because it does not know that there is a new distro version.
There is little to none regression potential
Binary package hint: kpackagekit
in karmic both update-notifier-kde and kpk notify the user about a distribution upgrade, kpk should be patched to not show the notification in favor of unk which was doing the job for much longer and is thus more reliable.
