Weak wireless signal for MSI Wind U100

Bug Description

After installing easypeasy the wireless driver is functional but not getting as strong a signal as it did previously with Windows XP. No wireless networks are found in the vicinity that other laptops find. If I set up a specific wireless network connection to my own router the signal is too weak to connect to the Internet (10%). From research I found a site where a package is available that contains useful MSI drivers http://boskastrona.ovh.org/ however the downloaded package does not install the drivers. It fails with a message that the generic linux is not found.
I am a complete newby to Linux - easy peasy is my first foray. So I may not be following the instructions correctly.
I did attempt to upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 from the easy peasy updates area but that took a long time to load and did not recognise many of the drivers including the keyboard, touchpad and mouse so I restored back to easypeasy.

Any advice would be great as a netbook without wireless internet access is pretty useless.

Thanks

Ally
