Unfortunately the attached jockey.log is empty and the traceback is just for the client side, which does not tell me what happened to the backend. Can you please give some more details about what you did?

Are you able to reproduce this? If so, please open a Terminal and do

  sudo killall jockey-backend
  sudo /usr/share/jockey/jockey-backend --debug -l /tmp/jockey.log

then open Jockey again, replicate the problem, watch the backend crash.Then please attach /tmp/jockey.log here. Thanks!

I've got the Xubuntu RC installed now and that has been working
perfectly. Installation went smoothly, ATI driver installed OK also.
The alpha 3 installaton has long gone, and I've had a hard disc failure
since then, so even the disc has gone! The problem seems to have been
solved in the RC though. I might even start using Xubuntu instead of
Linux Mint!

The jockey.log attached in the duplicated bug #457239 is not empty.

In my case, I did not do anything explicit to provoke this error -- it happened by itself after the desktop session started when booting a live image.

I'll try to provide some more information if I see it again, but I don't know how to reproduce the problem reliably.

same happens with me and installing normal ubuntu 64bit on a toshiba satelite with core2 duo

after i installed ubuntu jockey crashed again and after i downloaded new graphic drivers and install them i was unable to boot ubuntu any more.. black screen after white ubuntu logo when booting..

I did what you asked:

And I Instantly got a jokey crash. Apport guided me to this bug, then i pressed ctrl-c for stopping jokey-backend:

what happens is that /tmp/jockey.log is empty. :(

This happens with Lucid Netbook Remix Alpha 2 on a Dell Inspiron 1520. The first time I encounter it, it happened alone, without doing anything apparently. (I was just browsing the web for testing network) If you launch manually Jockey it works normally.

Got this bug in Ubuntu (mainstream, no flavor like Xubuntu) 10.04 amd64, running on MacMini3,1 and trying to use Hardware Drivers to detect my wireless card. Hardware Drivers worked before, it let me get the proprietary nVidia drivers.

Looking through previous comments, it seems to me like the developers would like a jockey.log to play with. Here's mine!

I can confirm the same thing is happening on lucid beta 1 daily cd 2010-03-18

Similar story. My crash happened when I was using the Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit live usb. I can test any proposed fix if it is helpful. Just let me know.

I hade the same problem testing maverick on a livecd, with a sony vaio vgn fz21m. After jockey-gtk crashed, I typed sudo killall jockey-backend, then I could load the hardware drivers program, and also load the nvidia proprietary drivers. But on terminal I had these error messages:

It's good that it's known bug.
But how can I set Ubuntu to netbook after them?

So is there any solution to it? I am on Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell 1765, and the same happens here - I can not install the ATI driver or the wireless drive - install crashes.
