Bug Description
Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools
users-admin from gnome-system-tools does not allow to create users with "special characters" in their names, specifically precluding dots (".").
While all the underlying systems (unix pwdb, login managers, etc') do support users with dots in their names, and when configuring network authentication (which is not yet a supported Ubuntu feature which is a shame) such users are accepted and even command line tools let an administrator create such users, administrators using the GNOME UI to create users are not allowed this freedom.
It would be great if users-admin handling of usernames will be made more flexible to accept all characters that are accepted by the underlying infrastructure.

This is fixed upstream with 2.29.2. Should be in Lucid soon.
