I can reproduce a similar crash by opening the right-click menu on an image and browsing through the View and Image menus. It's not 100%, but trying this many times eventually triggers a crash.

Bug 330846 and bug 334076 are possible duplicates, particularly if this is a GTK issue.

I just experienced this crash when using GIMP to crop an image. It cropped ok, then hung for about 90 seconds before dying.

I had also the problem with cropping in Gimp, but I agree that it could be related to GTK as when I have visual effects on (compiz or whatever it is now ;-) ) the crash are much more commons than when I have no visual effects at all. It crashes when I'm trying to activate a menu, resize a window, etc. while they are still some animations going on (like the wobbling window, etc.)
