dhcp <--> static ip doesn't work from GUI

Bug Description

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 and having a problem. When I am trying to change from DHCP to static IP address via Graphic User Interface the IP address is still the same (after system reboot), but when I am trying to modifiy /etc/network/interfaces file then everyting it is ok. So seems to be a problem with Gnome.

Also I've seen the same problem when I was using Linux Mint 6, codename "Felicia".

Can someone check it, please?

Thanks for your bug report, more information is needed.
Please attach your /etc/network/interfaces file before and after changing from DHCP to static.
Do you use different locations for DHCP and static settings? If so please attach the files under ~/.gnome2/network-admin-locations/
What version of gnome-system-tools are you using? Run the following command from a terminal:
$ apt-cache policy gnome-system-tools

So the file you asking for, looks exactly the same before (automatoc DHCP) and after change to manual IP:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

Where in the GUI did you try to make this change? I think this is probably assigned to the wrong package, starting with Ubuntu 8.10 doesn't use the gnome-system-tools network config tool anywhere in its GUI.

Steve, maybe it was wrong category - I wasn't shure.

When I am on desktop, after login to Ubuntu I am doing right click on network icon on the taskbar, then "Edit connection" -> Wired -> Add -> IPv4 settings, then changing from Auotmatic DHCP to Manual and I am filling forms with my details (Address, netmask, gateway, dns)

And after that I am doing system reboot .. and .. IP address is still wrong (automatically assigned) :-(

The same problem is affecting me.

I created a new configuration (By GUI) and deleted the automatic one, but after a reboot the system change my manual configuration and recreate the automatic one!

Similar problem affected me, too. Right click on Network Manager Applet - Edit Connection - Wireless - IPV4 Settings - Method - Manual - Add - IP: 192.168.1.1 - Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 - Gateway 19.168.1.254. However, I can not SAVE this setting. I am on Ubuntu 10.04. With the number of problems I have had with Network Mangager, I tried to replace it with WICD but it kept coming back after update, and ruin my setup!
Here's my /etc/network/interfaces file:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

I use Network Manager Applet 0.8.
