Assign, prioritize and target bug at report time

Bug #297902 reported by Jonathan Lange

Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
Launchpad itself
Fix Released
Undecided
Unassigned

Bug Description

At the moment, filing a bug that you actually want to work on is a little tedious. It would be really nice if you could target, assign and prioritize the bug at the time of filing it.

Currently, I file a bug, specifying the summary, tags and UI that you want (see https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/malone/+filebug-advanced for an example), then on the bug page set the assignee, status (Triaged), priority and sometimes the milestone. I already knew what these were going to be when I filed the bug, so it's a little frustrating having to fill out a second form.

My only concern would be that this would encourage bug reporters to assign bugs when they file them even when they shouldn't.

I think this should be ok, as long as we "hide" the options
appropriately. By hide, I mean that the options should be there, but
they should be behind an expander, or something, so that you have to
click on something to see the advanced options.

Another alternative is to limit these options to bug supervisors, so
that normal users won't see them at all.

Now you have the discreet 'Extra options' disclosure triangle at the bottom of the bug filing form it would seem like an obvious places to put these options...

Here's me trying to file a bug on bzr, where I should have full access.

(If you don't have access just omitting the controls may make things a bit confusing.)

Martin, are you a bug supervisor or bug contact for bzr? If not, those options won't show up for you.

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bzr says that Martin is the driver. He's also the security contact. I can't see a field called bug contact.

I'm marking this as fixed, since it basically works. If you are the bug supervisor, you see the extra options. Martin's bug is that if a bug supervisor isn't set, no one gets to see the options. I've filed bug 375331 about that issue. To work around it, you can set the bug supervisor to bzr-core at https://launchpad.net/bzr/+bugsupervisor

Ok,

I wonder if other projects will be in the same boat and never realize
bug 297902 was fixed? Should you perhaps do a bulk update for
projects with no bug supervisor? I've never heard of the term before
now in years of using lp.
