Bug Description

When using an external monitor set as left or right of LVDS, ume-launcher stretches to the whole screen. (half the icons on each monitor)

In my opinion, it should follow the top panel and stretch to the current monitor only.

Maybe related to #253048

Are you using Xinerama (make the two monitors appear as one)? Have you tried checking the "Clone Screens" (or is it "Mirror Screens")?

Nop, I'm using xrandr -- though "xrandr --output VGA --left-of LVDS" makes
the two monitors work as a single screen.

Clone Screens does not work for me -- I'm using an aspire one (1024x800" and
neigther my external monitor nor the projectors I use do support this mode)

I believe this would be solved if we used gdk_screen_get_n_monitors and used the size of the first monitor to determine the size of the desktop.

    - Use gdk_screen_get_monitor_geometry to always position on the first
monitor for dual screen set-ups (where video card reports Xinerama or
      xrandr information).

N.B. Testing appreciated and also, gdk monitor detection only works if the video card reports the screens using xrandr or Xinerama (so no monitor detection with nvidia twinview set-ups).

This appears to always position netbook-launcher, not on the first screen, but on the left-most screen.

On the Aspire One, the Intel driver maps the screens thusly:
- When no monitor is connected, the LVDS panel is screen 0.
- When an external monitor is attached, it becomes screen 0, and the LVDS panel becomes screen 1.
(Yes, this is a little silly.)

I can trick the gnome-panel into staying on the internal screen through gconf hackery, but netbook-launcher ought to support a similar option to choose which screen to display on. I move from room to room and sometimes my monitor is on the left, sometimes on the right.

(Filing a similar bug against maximus.)

Right, we need a gconf key to choose which monitor to display on.

This gconf-key needs to be made as it would help a lot

    - Add /apps/netbook-launcher/monitor gconf key which can be used to display
the launcher on a monitor other than 0, in a Xinerama/Xrandr setup.

I am using Ubuntu Remix. Trying to get the ume-launcher not to spread. Using the default program in ubuntu to get the dual screen, but cannot get the launcher not to stretch.

Can any of youexplain to me in human language step by step what to change?!

Thanx!!!

Is this fix already in current versions of UNR/netbook-launcher? If so, can it be closed?

In Ubuntu 9.10, netbook-launcher only shows on the top-left-most screen, regardless of which is the primary screen. Putting the external monitor above the laptop screen puts netbook-launcher on the external monitor, but the panel on the laptop screen.

It also exposes another bug where the desktop on the second screen doesn't redraw—moving a window leaves trails.

@Greg: can you please open another bug with a screenshot with that issue? Unfortunately, I don't have a double screen to see that bug.

This one (the expanding on the dual screen) is closed, at least. I mark it as fix released.
