Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

I'm using totem 2.24 on intrepid.

Totem used to be able to keep playing a file even after you deleted, moved or renamed it. And I honestly always found it an extremely cool feature. But not anymore, now it will stop after any of these operations.

Should it be able to do so? I have a bad security feeling with this "feature".

Particularly with deleting the file it's playing, does it just keep reading the area the file used to be at. What happens when a new file gets written there, while it is playing? This had big security ramifications (I think), and could be the cause of many bugs. Would you call this expected behavior?

Well yes, as a user I would expect this behaviour. I don't know whether or not it can lead to bugs, though, so if you guys really think it can, then I guess the change is for the better.

I'm still going to upstream it and see what they say. It is a useful feature to have and let's see why they removed it.
