HP Color LaserJet 3600: "Best" printing mode with proprietary plug-in gives "Chosen personality not available" on printer's front panel

If you fix this bug in the next days it would be great if you could post a patch, as we are after feature freeze in Ubuntu and due to this I cannot replace the current HPLIP package by a new version. Thanks.

Thank you very much for the patch. Fixed with the help of HP's test printers.

I have applied the patch, but it has no effect at all. I have also tried deleting and reinstalling the proprietary plug-in (by deleting /usr/share/hplip/data/plugins/*, /usr/share/cups/model/hpijs/HP/hp_color_laserjet_3600-hpijs.ppd, and /usr/share/hplip/prnt/plugins/lj*) and reinstalling the printer with hp-setup (which re-downloads the plug-in). But as the plugin file on the server is of Feb 26, you have probably not fixed anything there.

Perhaps this was only a part of the bug and another part is in the plug-in.

Reopening as the patch did not fix the bug. I have uploaded the package anyway as such a typo should not be left in. Probably it is a part of the fix.

I could reproduce this on Kubuntu Hardy with all updates installed. I did not apply the patch manually.

It's not only the high quality printout mode that's missing, also there's no draft mode, which would be nice to save on toner.

Please run hp-info and post the output.

old_toby, you do not get all printing modes when simply using HPIJS. You can either run "hp-setup" and create a queue for the printer with this tool, so that you get the proprietary plug-in from HP or you use the third-party free software driver "pxljr" (not available on all distros, on Ubuntu it is available).

The ppd has Model Name as "hp color LaserJet 3600" which is causing hpijs to instantiate
it as a PCL printer. I will update the ppd.
