Desktop doesn't populate

Bug Description
Since the upgrade to 20.04, there are no icons on my desktop. When I try to drop a file to the desktop, I'm unable to and the file bounces back to it's original location.
My desktop directory is still located in the user root directory and all the files that are supposed to be in it, are.

Please open the 'Extensions' app and check that 'Desktop Icons' is enabled. If it isn't then please enable it. If it is already enabled then most likely this is bug 1883174.
