firefox-locale-* packages do not enable localization => post-install localization is not complete

This is interesting, I can observe the problem on a clean install, not when upgrading from firefox 73 with an existing profile directory.

This is https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2019/10/31/firefox-to-discontinue-sideloaded-extensions/ : in Ubuntu, firefox langpacks are sideloaded (installed in /usr/lib/firefox-addons/extensions/).

And the corresponding upstream bug is https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1602840.

And I can confirm that hacking /usr/lib/firefox/omni.ja to change MOZ_ALLOW_ADDON_SIDELOAD to true "fixes" the problem.

This bug was fixed in the package firefox - 74.0+build2-0ubuntu1

Accepted thunderbird into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/1:78.7.1+build1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

I should have elaborated on the testing I did: in a fully up-to-date focal VM with French as the default language/locale, I enabled focal-proposed and installed the thunderbird update (1:78.7.1+build1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1), and I verified that the UI is fully localized in French, including menus, preferences, etc…

The verification of the Stable Release Update for thunderbird has completed successfully and the package is now being released to -updates. Subsequently, the Ubuntu Stable Release Updates Team is being unsubscribed and will not receive messages about this bug report. In the event that you encounter a regression using the package from -updates please report a new bug using ubuntu-bug and tag the bug report regression-update so we can easily find any regressions.
