Bug Description

When I boot my new Ubuntu 18.04LTS install on my ASUS flipbook I see the splash screen as expected. The boot continues and it reaches the point where you would expect to see the login screen. I see what appears to be a non-backlighted blank black screen. If I wait until all hard drive activity ceases and then type in my password and press enter the login completes and I am presented a normal Ubuntu desktop.

Thank you
Gene

Thank you for responding. No Sir. The screen brightness keys (fn f5 and
fn f6) have no effect at all.

Gene

Daniel,
I am fairly literate and I am an IT professional by trade (Cisco Voice),
however I am not a desktop specialist and especially not a Linux
specialist. I am very willing to learn and do all I can to help resolve
this issue but I would not know how to tell which kernel I am currently
running nor how to select and install one from that massive list you
provided. I do so appreciate your help and I hope it continues to be
extended to a willing novice.

Thank you
Gene

Daniel,
Clicking on each of these links resulted in a 404 error. I am very
interested and willing to work this issue but I also know your time is
valuable. I have established a work around by setting my system to auto
logon. That bypasses the offending condition. I have not run into the
blank screen anywhere else. I am sure the problem is being caused by some
odd ASUS bios boot-up condition. I have worked with Linux enough to know
the capability and quality of the product. I would blame ASUS before
Ubuntu.

Let me know how you want to proceed.
Thank you.

That worked. I now can see the login screen. Now if I could only get to
motion sensors to learn the difference between landscape and portrait. It
boots up sideways and I have to tip the laptop on its side and open the
setting drop down and lock the rotation. Once it is locked I am good to
go. ASUS, I guess i would be too much to expect to have a standard X-Y
axis output. I can live with this. Thank you so much for your
assistance.
