Import cmyk-tiff crashes

Could you please attach an example TIFF-cmyk file so that we could investigate?

Here we are:

- Win7 Enterprise 32bit
- Inkscape 0.48.2 r9819
- Create new Document
- Change Document-Colormanagement to Agfa Swop Standard (not neccessary)
- use Donate-Picture from Inkscape Webpage
- convert to RGB.tiff with "convert Donate.png -auto-level -depth 8
Donate.tiff" (Imagemagick)
     identify Donate.tiff
     Donate.tiff TIFF 149x37 149x37+0+0 8-bit sRGB 6.55KB 0.000u 0:00.000
- Import OK
- convert to CMyk.tiff with "convert Donate.png -auto-level -depth 8
     -colorspace CMYK Donate_CMYK.tiff" (ImageMagick)
     identify Donate_CMYK.tiff
     Donate_CMYK.tiff TIFF 149x37 149x37+0+0 8-bit CMYK 4.06KB 0.000u
0:00.000
- Import will not work

- Color-Depht is reduced to 8bit per Channel, also Gimp can't open
16bit-Picture.

btw, what about transparency?
I Create a Document with a picture having transparent Background.
On SCREEN everything looks fine, but in printout you can see the
"transparent" Bg with other Color.
(prof. Printout, no laserprinter)
Seems, they work with pdf 1.3 without transparency. How to export
without Transparency, f.e. pdf 1.3?

confirmed on Windows 7, Inkscape 0.48.4.
the file Donate_CMYK.tiff leads to the exit message:

(inkscape.exe:3092): GLib-WARNING **: GError set over the top of a previous GError or uninitialized memory.
This indicates a bug in someone's code. You must ensure an error is NULL before it's set.
The overwriting error message was: Couldn't load bitmap

on Windows XP, Inkscape rev 12174, both of these files fail to load, with the same message as above

Not reproduced on OS X 10.7.5 with Inkscape 0.48.4 and 0.48+devel r12228
- GTK+/X11 2.24.13, glib 2.32.4, gdk-pixbuf 2.26.4
- GTK+/Quartz 2.24.17, glib 2.34.3, gdk-pixbuf 2.26.5

Crash also not reproduced on Ubuntu 12.10 (64bit, VM) with Inkscape 0.48.3.1 and 0.48+devel r12228.

Lowering importance - AFAIU from Alvin's console output, Inkscape itself does not crash (-> no risk of data loss).

Just to clarify: on both tested systems, both TIFF files import without error (embedded, as well as linked).

Confirmed on Windows XP, Inkscape trunk revision 12228. With both files the application show the same error message Alvin had comment #3.

Not reproduced with the experimental GTK3 version built with the Opensuse cross-compiled libs. The files load correctly.

In both cases, Inkscape also crashes when the file preview is activated in the Open dialog (runtime error).
I'll try to find other TIFF files to confirm the crash (and probably open a separate report).

Let's see if it's possible to update the pixbuf loader dlls in the current devlibs...

Note that when the Open/Save dialog is set to GTK (instead of native) in the preferences, Inkscape doesn't crash but hides the CMYK file.
