David, HomeBank is already split - there is homebank and homebank-data binary deb packages.
Preset categories files (loaded when creating a new wallet) and example file (see http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mdoyen/homebank/main/files/head:/data/datas/) should be included into homebank-data deb package (/usr/share/homebank/datas/ folder).
