I've followed Steffen's instructions, including installing normal fglrx, then downloading the ATI driver from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx, purching fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle then installing the new drivers. After a reboot I come to blank screen. I can boot recovery just fine, but even then im getting mediocre performance. glxgears is around 2500fps in gnome-shell but is at about 10000fps in gnome-classic. Gnome-shell is generally choppier too. Window transitions and moving windows is not smooth.
Is there a solution to the blank screen? Is my performance normal for the current state of drivers?
