tooltips avoid extra clicking. The brain can get the info with just a quick hover.
as for allowing tooltips in some lenses, for example the "file-lens" increases its usability and usefulness to the user without the need to open nautilus just to get this basic info: file size, modification date, etc..
anything that increases usability should be a little more than just wishlist.
