At the moment, the Workspace switcher and Rubbish bin icons are locked to the launcher by default.
Some people never use workspaces, and others don't need such acces to the rubbish bin.
Those two icons should have the option "Unlock from Launcher" in their quicklists so people who don't find them useful can make some space in their launcher.
As those two icons are not really apps, maybe it would be more suitable to be able to enable or disable them from System Settings -> Appearance.
