The above suggestion is probably a bit over engineered. you don't need paramiko. I verified :
echo "${KEY}" | base64 --decode | md5sum | awk '{print $1}' | sed -e 's,\(..\),\1:,g' -e 's/:$//'
gives the same. so no need for paramiko just for this.
