I can confirm this too. Adding the line "options snd-hda-intel model=sony-assamd" to "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf" instead of "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base" and restarting afterwards solved the problem in Jaunty for my VGN-N31M.
