Bug Description

Hi!
I own a Radeon HD 3850 AGP graphic card (note the AGP instead of the PCIE which makes this card a bit special). When I start the Ubuntu Live CD (either the Jaunty or the daily built Karmic one) the screen becomes black after starting X and the cursor appears but nothing else. With Jaunty I know the desktop is loaded because I can press ALT+F2 and launch a soft which activates the CD drive. With Karmic X keeps loading in loop but the desktop doesn't load (the cursor appears then disappears and the screen becomes more black then the cursors appears again and the screen becomes less black…). No problem when starting in safe graphics mode.
I will try to see if I have the same problem with Ubuntu installed on my hard disk.
Bye!

In fact the safe graphics mode doesn't work any more with Karmic daily built Live CD.

I installed Jaunty on my computer and the display works with and without the Fglrx driver (the Fglrx driver is the one of the repository).

Hi!
On an up to date Karmic the display works with the xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd package and only after removing the xserver-xorg-video-radeon package which makes me think that the bug comes from the ati wrapper driver from the xserver-xorg-video-ati package. I also wonder why the xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd package isn't installed by default?
Bye!

The display now works with the Fglrx driver too.
