Bug Description

Xpad has a simple and nice look, that makes it great to use.
But sometimes I just want to check things in the pads without editing them. I know I can toggle the read-only state in the Preferences menu. But I have to open the menu and toggle it again if I want to edit the content. I think that's not very convenient. Can you add a hotkey shortcut to toggle the read-only state please?
Thanks!

Hi Dongyu,

I can understand this wish and I don't mind to implement it.
But just before I do this, let's think about a good choice for the key combination.

I suggest at least a CTRL+<character> combination.
I don't want to use a character which is commonly used for other purposes.
For example, CTRL+F is not used in Xpad, but is often used for finding/searching.

Since making something read-only is not a common action, I suggest a key combination which is not commonly used. I used this as a reference, but maybe you have other sources.

What about CTRL+J ?

Hi Arthur,

Thanks for your affirmative reply.

I can fully understand your consideration to choose a proper key combination.
CTRL+J is perfectly acceptable for me!

Okay, so we are happy with the CTRL+J key combination.

Now, should this key combination toggle read-only on all pads, like the preferences setting, or should it only apply to the current/active pad?

I would prefer the latter solution (apply to each pad independently). So that I can set the default state to read-only. And only when I want to edit the pad, I press CTRL+J to make it editable without affecting other pads. (And vice versa)

That will be great, isn't it?

I have added characters in notes by accident, several times. It would be nice to be able to lock notes individually by a single click. The way it is done in indicator-sticky notes could be an inspiration.

Hi Arnaud,

I agree that would be nice; either a mouse click option or a shortcut.
I believe the first thing to do is to build a framework for configurable shortcuts.
Several feature requests depend on this.

I just need to find the motivation to start this work.
