Bug Description

i have noticed two strange bugs in regard to the new indicator plugin on the panel in xubuntu 14.04 (64bit):

1. in the panel preferences dialog, when i set the background style to "none (use system style)" the entire indicator plugin area and all the icons in it, refuse to match the rest of the panel and instead take on a semi-transparent grey background. this happens with all themes that i've tried. here is a screenshot that shows how out of place and incosistent the indicator area looks under these conditions; http://i5.minus.com/i13axvucGfWum.png now, if i change the background style to "solid color" the bug disappears; http://i6.minus.com/ibjum6Wc3c9Anz.png but that means my panel will no longer match whatever theme i use automatically.

2. some icons in the indicator plugin area have portions cut off, there is no other way to describe this. here is a screenshot; http://i5.minus.com/i51zpfDWSL0nE.png notice the icon for psensor (next to volume control icon) is cut off at the top and bottom.

p.s. this is on a machine i upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04 through the software updater / dist-upgrade. aside from some issues with a few indicator and notification plugins, the upgrade went swimmingly.

- version of xfce4-indicator-plugin = 2.3.2-0ubuntu2
- what i expect to happen = the indicator plugin area should match the xfce theme i'm using, and thus the rest of the panel. icons should also not be cut off, and i'd assume scaled to fit on the panel instead.
- what happened instead = the indicator plugin area does not match any xfce theme i'm using, and thus looks very out of place on the panel, unless i change the background style to "solid color", but this nullifies the ability of the panel to automatically match themes. certain icons also do not fit the panel and are cut off / cropped.

The same problem as 1: indicator area is black although I use white theme (Xubuntu 14.04)

Indicator plugin does not adhere to system themes. When moused over, indicator plugin always highlights itself in white/gray no matter what theme is being used. Menus for volume/music look distorted when using anything other than default theme. Linux mint 17 xfce edition, indicator plugin version 2.3.2.

Most likely you are using a theme that does not support Gtk3, or has special rules for Gtk2 panel plugins but no such rules for Gtk3 plugins. At the moment, xfce4-indicator-plugin is the only Gtk3 plugin for Xfce panel - it has to be because Unity indicators no longer support Gtk2.

Try Adwaita or a new version (git) of Greybird or Numix and let me know if the problem persists.

Same problem. Using the Shiki theme (in my case), the indicator plugin background does not match -- is white instead of matching the rest of the panel. Xubuntu 14.04.

1. The indicator plugin is built against gtk3, so a gtk theme with support for both gtk2 and gtk3 is required for proper theming.

2. This issue has been already reported here bug 1313531 (read comment #8).

The same issue here, I want to set it black background like my theme, how to achieve it at least manually?

I have the same problem when using the "Adwaita-X-dark" theme. When using the "Bluebird" themes that ships with my Ubuntu 14.04, the indicator plugin's background is dark blue (as it should be). When using Adwaita, it is light grey as opposed to the rest of the panel which is nearly black.

To me it looks like a definition in the theme is missing, too.

I solved it in my case by adding the following lines at the end of ~/.themes/Adwaita-X-dark/gtk-3.0/gtk.css

.xfce4-panel {
 background-color: #222222;
 font: normal;
}
.xfce4-panel .button {
 color: #ffffff;
}

(I took them from the Bluebird theme and changed the RGB color values to match the Adwait-X-dark colors.)
