Bug Description

TO REPRODUCE:

Install wine version 1.0.0-1ubuntu2~hardy1
$ winecfg [- this initializes wine and populates ~/.wine]
$ cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Internet Explorer
$ wine iexplore.exe
A window pops up titled "Wine Internet Explorer" and tells me it needs to install the Gecko engine. I say ok and it downloads it and installs it.

EXPECTED RESULT:

Wine Internet Explorer displays all the buttons that ie6 normally displays and allows me to browse the internet

ACTUAL RESULT:

The Wine Internet Explorer window is black, not showing any buttons or any way to browse. I've attached a screenshot.

Yes, Wine Internet Explorer is a stub. It has no user interface and is not meant to be a fully-featured browser. Most people only use it to install Gecko.

You can view web pages in it if you run it with a url, e.g.
$ wine iexplore http://www.google.com/

While Wine's bundled IE is really only meant to be used internally by programs like the steam web store, it would be nice to give it some minimal controls in case an application launches it (rather than displays it internally).

Is this still an issue in newest WINE?

Does an upstream bug link exist?
