Bug Description
The current version of VM triggers plenty of warnings and problems when used with the current version of Emacs. This is illustrated with bug #1979048 and the patches in Mark Diekhans' source code branch.
It will probably not be a panacea, but I suspect the chance to get patches to fix things from various users would increase somewhat if Git was used. If nothing else, simply because more people are familiar with Git. Whether one likes it or not, it is probably safe to say Git is winning the version control competition over both Mercurial and Bazaar. Launchpad nowadays supports Git.
For these reasons I suggest to migrate the VM source repository over to Git.
