grub fails to install on usb

Bug Description
I used the option to install with my own settings and partitions, I chose not to install 3rd party software, the partitions were an Ext4 partition of about 11k mb, a swap partition of around 3999k mb and an efi partition of around 500mb. everything runs smooth until I get and error that grub failed to install, I have read tutorials online and tried multiple times. I have a tomahawk b550 motherboard with secure boot off (or as close as the bios will let me) and I don't have a legacy boot option.

I just installed on windows hyper v with the same .iso file, and it succeeded. I dont know if this is an issue with balena etcher or the size of my usb, which is a 16gb cruzer glide
