Bug Description

Was not an issue with TB 3.x on Ubuntu 11.04 x64 with Unity. Did clean install of TB 5.0 and added Unity Launcher support, ver 0.6, and noticed when an email comes in, the TB icon in the launcher will show 2 new messages and not one. Also, when I am drafting a long email (IMAP connection) and my draft gets aut-saved, the TB icon in the Unity launcher will pop up a new message count, telling me I have new mail when I am only drafting a message.

Hi,

I got a gmail account and it seems that not only the messages from "inbox" are counted but also these in the folder "New Messages". I suppose that the "New Messages" folder belongs to gmail/googlemail and is an IMAP folder. It seems that not only the messages in Inbox are counted but also these in the IMAP folder(s). At least if I understand the whole counting process correctly.

I do not know if you already know this, but if not, then I hope this information helps.

Hey - the information definitely helps! :)

We've recently merged the Unity Launcher add-on into the Messaging Menu add-on, and believe we've fixed the behavioural issues in the process.

Assuming you installed Thunderbird via apt-get, if you're on the right update channel, I believe apt-get upgrade should update to include the new Messaging Menu add-on with the corrected Unity Launcher feature.

You'll, of course, need to disable the original Unity Launcher add-on for this to work.

Let me know if that helps,

-Mike

Hi - I just removed the extension and then added it back, then logged out of Ubuntu and then logged back in - doesn't work at all now... boo... lol... I did try sudo apt-get upgrade, there was nothing listed as available. I did install TB 5.0 from ppa... and I did as clean install... Tricky little critter, this extension, but super nice when it works as advertised... :) I loved it when I was using TB 3.x...

Hey - sorry you're having difficulties with it!

I think I made a wrong assumption - I assumed you were on an Ubuntu Oneiric alpha. If so, then yes, bundled TB comes with the Messaging Menu and Unity Launcher behaviours all built in.

If, however, you're on Ubuntu Natty or other, then this doesn't come as much help. When you reinstalled the add-on, did you ensure it was version 0.6? (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/unity-launcher-integration/versions/?page=1#version-0.6)

Ubuntu 11.04 x64 with Unity, TB 5.0. Yes, when I did I clean install of TB 5.0, I had been using the ext from your download link - but it was reporting wrong message counts. I removed and reinstalled - now it doesn't work at all not sure what is up... :( Something is stuck somewhere...

No worries, I am living without it... but do miss it...

When I was on TB 3.x and was using the ext, it worked perfectly...

That's the breaks, I guess, lol - no pun intended...!!! :)

Same problem with TB 5 on Natty 64.
Moreover, it should be allow to define the folders to count. Now it counts mail in all folders.

Maks: How did you install that? I just got TB7 from thunderbird-stable, and it deactivated the launcher integration plugin due to incompatibility.

Ok, I've updated AMO with the latest version of the add-on - yours should be updated soon, once it passes review.

If you're impatient, you can get it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/messaging-menu-integration/versions/ (version 0.8)

Hope that helps,

What you can do :

Open : "Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> Config Editor (button)"

Search for `extensions.messagingmenu.inboxOnly` set it to true and that's it.
