Bug Description

Clicking the maximize button fails to maximise the window after it was snapped to the side.

Steps to reproduce :
- open any (resizable) window like firefox, nautilus
- drag it to the left or right of the screen so that it snaps and covers half the screen
- then click the maximize button

What happens:
- the window is not resized but the controls (buttons + menu) disappear (they don't appear in the global menu either). The only way to move and resize the window again is to drag it with the alt key to make the controls reappear.
- or the window is simply resized (smaller arbitrary size) while keeping the controls.

What should happen:
The window should be maximized properly as expected.

Note that if the window is dragged to the top instead of clicking the maximize button, it works properly.

Release: Ubuntu precise (beta), Unity 5.8.0

I've had this happen a couple of times, but I can't reliably get it to happen. I've had it happen primarily in Firefox, but that may just be because I have it open more often than other apps.

I found this bug in both 11.10 and 12.04, in several computers and with both clean and upgraded installs. It happens for every applications I tried (firefox, libreoffice, nautilus...), systematically, and since I use the sided windows a lot, it is really annoying.

The window acts as if it is in a pseudo-maximized state when stuck to the grid (left side, right side, even corners), so that when the maximize button is clicked, the window reverts back to an unmaximized state and a second click is needed to actually make it fullscreen.

Also, I noticed that when snapping off the window from a sided position, the mouse cursor appears several inches above the window (instead of grabbing the title bar). I'm not sure if this is related to this bug, but it adds to the irritation.

Is this a duplicate of bug #897689? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/897689

Note that the behaviour has changed in 15.10 anyway.
