application menu is not smooth when moving the mouse over the menu options

Bug Description
Ok.. Heres as best as I can explain it in writing. When you click on an application menu (eg. File) and then mouse over to the other menus (eg. Edit, View,etc.), the menu items tend to flash. The transition is not smooth. It is smooth if the mouse over is slow, but when moving the mouse fairly quickly, the menus flash.

Also, this affects the Indicator menus. I'm not sure if it is a video card issue either. I'm using virtualbox to run ubuntu.
