Bug Description

HI Ubuntuone Team,

An extremely usefull feature would be to allow local lan syncing of ubuntu1 PC's. I have several gigabytes (25gb+) of data, and growing, and it's just not feasible to have to sync that data online. I noticed dropbox has incorporated this feature into their service.

I think this is quite a critical feature, it's been a long time coming, I have been requesting offline syncing since u1 was released.

Thank you for the feature request. This is something we (the Ubuntu One team) have discussed doing in the past and we'll consider doing in the future. We don't have any definite plans for it now, as our focus is on making the current service as fast and stable as possible.

HI thanks for the response, is there NO way to sync locally, like
copying all the relevant u1 files and files in the u1 folder over?

I'm really struglling to sync 25gb of data to 4 machines, do not have
that kind of bandwidth, will literally take a month

Please can this request be revisited. It's been logged forever and with the new focus on U1 functionality I really think this a feature that is sorely lacking. If the U1 team what to allow single sign-on, unified configs and auto app installs etc etc this is the one feature that has to be there else it's actually pointless. You just can't expect users with more than 2 GB of U1 data, let alone all the application packages you would have to sync as well, to re-download all of that from the web. This issue has been holding me back from using U1 on more than one machine, I just cannot afford the bandwidth or the time to download 25GB of data multiple times.

Please please put some effort on this feature, it will solve MANY problems and make U1 just so much more awesome and something people might actually start to use besides dropbox.

There is exist another, manual way to do that.
1) Enable some folder to syncing or if it 'Ubuntu one' folder, sign in on new computer, then kill sync daemon immediately when he starts syncing.
2) Copy that files from another computer with flash drive or mobile hdd, etc.
3) Restart sync daemon. It will calculate check sums of files, he thinks that new, and encounter that the same file already exist in the cloud.
I used this method for enabling sync of many gigs on new computers without actualy downloading them.
