Bug Description

Slow environment and disc-grind on boot-up. System monitor shows ubuntuone-syncdeamon using loads of cpu% and v-memory with status 'uninteruptable'.

U1 Prefs shows my machine isn't linked under 'devices' and no boxes checked under 'services'. Under 'account' all fields are 'unknown'.

U1 sync folder is empty except for another empty flder called 'shared with me'. After a few minutes the syncdaemon goes to sleep and I get my processor back.

I see U1 is in rcconf despite being off at the setup menu. (Looked using the GUI 'startup applications') Removed but problem continues as described above. I rechecked settings in the prefs - everything is still unchecked.

Louis,
Looking at your logs it looks like your Documents folder is set up to sync with Ubuntu One. You can see which folders are being synced by running the following command in a Terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal):

u1sdtool --list-folders

It looks like you deleted or removed a bunch of items. Could these high cpu loads have been caused by U1 removing all these items from your metadata? Meaning is the high cpu load still an issue for you?

The syncdaemon process should not start if under 'Services' on the U1 Preferences Panel, the 'File Syncronization checkbox is not checked.

If I do the following, the ubuntuone-syncdaemon process stops and will not show up again, even after restarts:

   1. Open System->Preferences->Ubuntu One
   2. Click on the "Services" tab
   3. Click off the "File Synchronization" checkbox

I can see the ubuntuone-syncdaemon process disappear from System Monitor immediately after I check off that checkbox. Can you confirm that this is still not working with the latest version of Ubuntu One.

Additionally it would help a lot if you could run the following command in a Terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) to attach more info about what version of Ubuntu One and Ubuntu you are using.

apport-collect -p ubuntuone-client 604555

thank you,
duanedesign

Happens to me too. I do have folders, but my laptop is generally very unresponsive until it finishes it's job. Perhaps changing to lower priority (higher nice) would solve the problem? The problem is not so much the cpu(thank god it is not multithreaded, thisway it only hogs one core) but the harddrive spinning furiously (according to iotop).
I am on ubuntu 10.10 ,uname:2.6.35-28-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 18 18:42:20 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I don't know how to best capture the problem, taking a screenshot does seem a bit odd:)

I have the same problem. I've turned off sync, I've removed my computer from the devices, and I removed all options from ubuntu one. Still, it turns on by itself, and takes 210 mb of my ram to do nothing, not to mention cpu usage.... I am using ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
