Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

You can make a data transfer on a network storage with left-click -> send-to-dialog.
But there is no integrated send-to-dialog für an "Ubuntu one" upload.

Sorry, misspelling: Use "send to"-dialog with right-click -> "send to"-dialog, of course.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. My understanding is that you're expecting Ubuntu One to be an option when you right-click on a file and select "Send To". Would you expect this to move the file to the ~/Ubuntu One folder? Thank you, Joshua

Hi Joshua,

yes, Ubuntu one should be an option when you right-click on a file and select "Send to". That would be convenient for every user.

I would like to suggest this "protocol":

1) The selected file should be copied to "/home/Ubuntu one/"
2) It should then be uploaded to the cloud
3) If the user is offline, Ubuntu should report: "Unable to start upload to the Ubuntu cloud"
4) When the user is online again, Ubuntu should start upload to the Ubuntu automatically
5) When Ubuntu has finished the upload, the Ubuntu notification system should report that to the user: "Upload of file "..." to Ubuntu cloud was successful", or something like that.

Additionally to comment #4 i would suggest that Files that are synched to the cloud get a suitable emblem to make it stand out compared to other files that are in the same folder. Maybe all Files in the UOne Folder should get an emblem by default to keep recognition of synched files a standard on a system-wide level.

I actually wrote a little article about that Issue in my Blog, its about Dropbox but the Rationale is the same, i even made some neat little icons going along with it, if you are interested, this is the URL: http://cldx.blogspot.com/2009/10/make-your-dropbox-emblems-look-nice-and.html

Wouldnt it be smarter to just softlink the file to /home/UbuntuOne instead of copying it there? That way it would be easier to find out about the files original location from within the UOne folder as well as keeping Disk Usage lower.

For files that are already synched the option "Right Click->Synch to Ubuntu One" should dynamically change to "Unsynch this File" which should result in a select pop-up with these options:

-Only keep local copy (will destroy all copys from associated devices)
-Keep Device Copys and remove from server (There might be issues with this option since i dont know how UOne handles files that got synched, unsynched and synched again in the same directory since associated devices might recognize this file as new even though its already existent from a previous synch operation)

Unsynching a file would of course remove the emblem.

A synched file should sport a "Right Click->Share with..." option that lets me select several contacts from my AdressBook and gives an additional textbox for a little message going alongside the share URL, this should send Emails (or maybe IM`s??) automatically to the selected Contacts.

I attached my personal Cloud Emblem just to give you a slight idea of what im talking about.

I realized the "Send To" Dialogue already is kind of what i mentioned above, im really sorry for being so dumb i havent used it in a lifetime. I stick to my emblem suggestion though ^^ , and Batch-Contact-Sharing would be nice also (sending it to several people, not only one at a time) but i guess i should file a several bug (wish) on how to make th Send to Dialogue nicer since i shouldnt write ten different things into one single Comment, youll have to excuse, this is my first launchpad experience, ill try to behave better from now on.....
