Bug Description

hi canonical,

i'd like to use ubuntuone on my OSX Mac computer. On previous Leopard, but also on my new Snow Leopard 10.82 System, Ubuntuone will launch extremely slowly and message a timeout error. I will see Ubuntu one's interface but all commands greyed. A message popping up from time to time says >ActivationTimeoutError<

any hints on how to make this work are welcome. The download info says it's ubuntuone 4.01, that's what is installed.

thank you, Daniel Finsler

Hi Daniel, the error in your logs indicates that separate processes that the Ubuntu One app starts are not able to connect to each other.
Has it run correctly at least once on this system?
Without knowing more context, the most likely problem here is that there is a process left over from a previous launch that is holding on to system resources (sockets, specifically) that are needed by the app when you launch it again.

I think you should be able to clear it up by quitting everything related to ubuntu one, and removing the following two directories:
~/Library/Caches/sso/
~/Library/Caches/ubuntuone/

The easiest way to quit everything is to reboot. If you don't want to reboot, you can start by quitting via the menubar icon, then look in Activity Monitor to find anything else with the name 'ubuntu' in it. Force quit those too. (You can leave the one called com.ubuntu.one.fsevents).

Please feel free to contact support if this doesn't work. You can also reply here, but contacting support will guarantee more prompt attention.

Hi Mike, I just tried this.
I deleted
~/Library/Caches/sso/
~/Library/Caches/ubuntuone/
I did a reboot.

I fired up UbuntuOne. This took a long time, and ended with the activation timeout message. In Ubuntuone, I can't see any folders, or Links to my published files, actually, everything but the tabs doesn't work.

Activity monitor shows three processes named ubuntuone-syncdaemon, one named Ubuntu One (tis takes 32% CPU), but nothing named com.ubuntu.one.fsevents. About every five Minutes, I'll get now timeout messages, unless I quit UbuntuOne. Now after quitting I see 5 processes named ubuntuone-syncdaemon, and from Activity Monitor I can't even terminate them. However I found a 'analysis' of that process. It's attached.

I shut off my computer almost every evening, restarting next morning again, which should care for leftover processes from previous launches.

thanks, Daniel

Mike,
the activities named ubuntuone.syncdaemon can be stopped. It just takes a while. However, this does not help.

Hi, Mike
tried once again today. Deleted the files you indicated, restarted, but Ubuntuone for mac would timeout. After that, I found two processes named ubuntuone-syncaemon in activity monitor.
