Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

I upgraded from Breezy to Dapper on a Dell GX260 with an ATI Radeon 7000VE with the DVI adaptor that splits into two VGA plugs. For over a year before the upgrade, running Sarge and Breezy, xinerama worked fine and the system was rock solid. After the upgrade, the system sporadically locks up when trying to draw to either screen.

The lockup is usually preceded by a popup window being drawn, or me attempting to switch windows or move a scroll bar. If I had to guess, I'd suspect a bug in the radeon drivers for dual-head setups. It happens anywhere between a few times a week to four or more times in one day. When nobody is using xorg, it runs for days or weeks without incident.

The system itself is what locks up, not just the graphics display. If I am playing music at the time, it stops, and no attempts to connect to network services from other machines are successful after the lockup.
