Here is a working xorg.conf file. It is from Dapper modified to avoid black screen. I have copied it to Hardy (booting from 20080301 PPC Desktop CD and pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2 when it stopped) using a flash drive. The startx command gives me a working system.

The minimum changes to get a working system on a G3 slotloading iMac from the default (autogenerated) /etc/X11/xorg.conf file on the hardy 20080301 desktop cd are these:

--- /tmp/xorg.conf.orig 2008-03-02 07:17:06.000000000 +0000
+++ /etc/X11/xorg.conf 2008-03-02 07:22:16.236317678 +0000

To get X working with the video=ofonly boot option I also have to set "UseFBDev" to "false" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (the boot splash only works with video=ofonly).

Any chance getting this bug fixed before the hardy release?
