In the interim, i have been able to find a work-arround.
"sudo apt-get install xfree86-
will install xfree86's driver (and uninstall xorgs)
You will then need to symlink the driver into it's proper location for xorg by typing
"sudo ln -sf /usr/X11R6/
Now finally a quick re-boot should send you on your way.
