Bug Description
Using the live amd_64 CD on my Gateway MX6421
Moving the pointer is fine, but clicking is quite crazy. It seems like X is interpreting random events as clicks. Dragging through the menus seems to load random applications when a click is registered.
All left-clicks in Firefox open any link in a new tab.
dmesg reports that the touchpad is using the Compaq Touchpad protocol, but other kernels have reported that this is a Synaptics device. Xorg.0.log reports that X11 is using the Synaptics driver.
This made posting this bug report quite a challenge!

I've generally had problems like this with the touchpad in breezy as well as dapper. Not perhaps to the extend described above, but that bit about random events being interpreted as a click ("tap" on the touchscreen?) is very very true (and annoying as hell). I note that in general the "mouse settings" don't seem to realize touch pads exist, because I, for one, would like to disable any action other than "move mouse around" for the touchpad and leave any and all clicking to real actual buttons outside the touchpad...can't do it. I have a gateway laptop as well, 200XL
