I have a gt68xx based usb scanner. If, after plugging it into my 8.04.1 system, I run XSane from "Applications-
Failed to open device `gt68xx:
It is only when I run xsane in a Terminal window that I can see the much more useful error message:
[gt68xx] Couldn't open firmware file (`/usr/
Installing this file from the Windows driver disk allows me to use the scanner.
What I would have liked to have happen is that the dialog box with the "Failed to open device" message would have included the reason why (missing firmware) message.

I have an Agfa SnapScan that worked fine under Gutsy.
Now I get the same gt68xx error.
