This bug is still in Jaunty. It is shameful that any terminal emulator in this day and age still have BS/DEL issues.
Essentially, xfce-terminal's "Auto" settings do not work properly with GNU screen, among other applications. xterm generates ASCII DEL when Backspace is pressed and ANSI ESC[3~ when Delete is pressed. xfce-terminal does not do this so applications that use xterm get confused.
xfce-terminal's "auto" should mimic xterm's behaviour if that is what the TERM variable is going to default to.
