Bug Description

Binary package hint: wxmaxima

In edgy, "wxmaxima" application window steals focus on start.
Most of gnome applications behave correctly: when they
start a bit longer and user switch to other window/application,
then newly launched applications open on background.
But this is not the case of this application.

Most of the apps I see grab focus on start up. Like gedit emacs-gtk etc. I am unsure whether this is a bug in the first place. Also since this bug has been reported on feisty, it will be great if you could check on Hardy and let us know, though at my side (On Hardy) it seems to be fine and I dont have any issues with this focus grab. Thanks for helping us make Ubuntu better.

The problem is still present in wxmaxima in Hardy.

Also gedit does -not- have this problem:
Note: One must switch to another application before gedit window
appears, then it wouldn't steal focus..
If no application switch is done, then the newly open window is on the top
- this is ok and not considered as focus stealing.

Seems like this problem might be caused by wxWidgets: https://forums.wxwidgets.org/viewtopic.php?t=7452

Umm, that connection to the one reported in https://forums.wxwidgets.org/viewtopic.php?t=7452 is only a "maybe", since that problem from 2006 was about showing something on the background, whereas the problem in wxmaxima is that a normal tip-of-the-day modal window goes below the main window, making the program appear completely unresponsive/broken. That behavior is very discouraging to new users (like me) when they don't know what causes it.

I observed the problem with wxmaxima version 15.08.2 on Lubuntu 16.04.2 (Xenial).

Thanks for any efforts towards fixing this bug.
