I can confirm this behavior on amd64 as well. The full error is:
Setting up openoffice. org-writer2late x (0.5-6) ... openoffice/ share/extension /install/ writer2latex. uno.pkg. .. org-writer2late x (--configure):
Adding extension /usr/lib/
unopkg failed.
dpkg: error processing openoffice.
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
This should be fixed for 8.04.1.
