Bug Description

Binary package hint: wireless-tools

Hello,

Two weeks ago, I noticed that wireless is not working in my laptop (Lenovo 3000 N100).

Not sure that it is my laptop or the wireless network, I just neglected it.

But, yesterday I found that something with Ubuntu is not right.

Running some commands, I found that the wireless adapter is turned off (!), although the physical switch is in "on" stat:
`iwlist power`
lo no power management information.

eth0 no power management information.

wmaster0 no power management information.

wlan0 Current mode:off

I will really appreciate it if someone will shade a light on this issue.

I use Ubuntu 8.04, desktop version.

The output of `apt-cache policy wireless-tools`:
wireless-tools:
  Installed: 29-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 29-1ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 29-1ubuntu2 0
        500 http://mirror.isoc.org.il hardy/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The output of `lspci -vv` is attached.

I can confirm this behavior with iwl3945 in Ubuntu 8.10.

However, I would note that the output of 'iwlist power' is *not* correlated with whether my laptop's wireless works - wireless is working just fine, so I think the bug in wireless-tools is just misleading output.
