Bug Description

after upgrading to jaunty, gnome terminal started being very slow when scrolling contents of tabs. this seems to manifest itself in tabs where there's an ssh to another machine (though i can't figure why). scrolling takes 100% of a core (i have thinkpad t61 with dual core).

also, hitting on the scroll area, above or below the bar, should normall scroll a page. now it scrolls several (which means that if i want to scroll a page i need to click the small arrows at the end of the scroll area multiple times)

finally, in many cases, clicking on a tab (with the attempt to switch to that tab) detaches the tab into a standalone window. very annoying.

do you get the same using terminator? could be a vte issue.

Could you open a bug upstream at bugzilla.gnome.org since you're facing the issue? vte works fine here for me.

But I'm not sure this is a vte issue.

I'm seeing slowness in Emacs also.

Maybe something to do with font/text handling in Gnome?

Ittay, if you are using an ATI chip, this may be a dupe of bug 363238
